MTC - April 24, 2008

What an Awesome experience. We enjoyed the three days at the MTC so much. The spirit is so very strong there. WE attended a fireside last night with Gerald Lund, he is 2nd Quorum of the seventy. He also wrote the Work and the Glory. His talk was great, he discussed the Book of Mormon. We loved it.

The MTC was a very good thing for both of us I loved it. We saw Richard Losee just before we left the MTC, he just arrived today, and is going to Brazil in the morning. There was about 70 missionary couples at the MTC. All going to different missions. Some headed for Cove Fort, some for Matins Cove some to 6th crossing some to Willie Center and two couple to Deseret Land & Livestock. In the morning Thursday we will go to Salt Lake City for more training with farm resources, meet our Mission President. Salt Lake city Mission. Cove Fort is in the Provo Mission, Willie Center, 6th Crossing, Martin cove are all in the Rapid City South Dakota Mission. We meet the Gardeners from Delta at the MTC. They are going to Martins Cove. We will go back to Delta Thursday night to get the Trailer and then to Wyoming. We will attend church in Evanston this coming Sunday.

God Bless you all

The gospel is true

Happy Birthday Dave - April 15, 2008

Happy Birthday Dave!!

Marilyn: Dustin & I have often marveled at the many things, Dave has tried, done and accomplished in his life. He has served our country in the Navy, he was a pilot, enjoyed his dune buggy & 4 wheeler, built 2 houses, fished every chance he got, loves trapping, learned wood working, trained & broke a horse, cared for his parents for 9 years, turned into a Snowbird and is quickly getting everything ready to serve the lord.

He is a wonderful example of giving selflessly and not afraid to try anything new. We love you Dad & Grandpa!!

Change in Orders - April 4, 2008

We got this E- Mail this Morning so things have changed a little.

(See E- Mail below) We will be at MTC April 21, 22 & 23 then go to Meeting in S.L.C. on Thursday till 4:30. We will go back here to Delta on Thursday night April 24 to get the 5th Wheel and truck and head for Mission on Friday April 25. We will be at the mission about noon on 25th.

There are four couples at our mission site. Each Sunday we will all go to Church in Evanston, Wyoming. (10 Miles)There are four buildings so each couple will attend the 9 AM meeting in a different ward. We will then meet back at the ranch and have our Sunday noon meal together. As in understand it we will attend the same ward each week so will get to know the ward members. We will wear our Missionary badges so all will know we are from Deseret Land & Livestock (DLL). The more we learn about this mission the more we like it. No suits except Sunday. We will dress in trek clothing(1856-60) during the time we are with the various treks.

Have a good day Dave & Caroll Hawk

Dear Elders and Sisters,
There has been a change at the MTC. You will only be there for training for three days then you will be up here on Thursday. We will finish up here about 4:30 pm. You can decide if you want to stay at the MTC that night then head up to DLL in the morning, go straight up there, or stay somewhere between here and DLL and go there the next morning. I hope this change doesn’t inconvenience you.

Mission Update - March 16, 2008

Well here is our first report. We met with the lead missionary for the DLL mission. I think we will enjoy the people on the mission. The lead couple are named John & Candy Sherwood from Gilbert, AZ. The other couple that was also at our meeting are the Platt's from Payson, AZ. The third couple are named Young from Provo, UT, we will see them at the MTC in April.

We found out that we will need to wear pioneer clothes during the time the treks are there. There will be three trek each week,so we will have a rest every fourth week. We will attend Church in Evanston, Wyoming on Sunday. Each couple will attend a different ward. On Sunday we will all be back at the ranch for a Sunday meal together.

The mailing address will be
Elder & Sister Hawk
Deseret Land & Livestock
P.O. Box 250
Woodruff, Utah 84086

Elder Platt said it freezes every night in May & about 75 % of the time in June up there. There are only 39 days a year with no frost. Things are going to be fun but I think we will be working hard. P day will be on Tuesday. Evanston is only about ten miles away.one other thing we will be building some new hand carts so that will be fun.

Mission Call - February 21, 2008

Marilyn: I talked to Caroll on Tuesday and she was worried about the mail because the contractors working on the clubhouse had the mail boxes covered.

On Thursday we got the phone call the Mission Call was finally here....Deseret Land & Livestock Mission - 8 miles outside of Evanston, WY. It is a Youth Trek camp, they will be serving with 3 other couples.

We are so excited if finally came and think it is the perfect fit for them!! Drew and Isaac are so excited to have Grandparents as missionaries. What a great example.

Club House Fire - February 20, 2008

The Clubhouse at the Park we stay at in Arizona caught fire while we were away for Christmas.

Tribute From Darla - February 14, 2008

My parents, Dave and Caroll Hawk, were married on Valentine's Day in 1964. They have a great marriage and I am so grateful to have parents who love each other and aren't afraid to show it. (Even if their PDAs made me want to gag when I was a teenager!) My Dad has always followed the advice of President David O. McKay, "The most important thing a father can do for his children is to love their mother." And my mom has always stood by my dad even when things were difficult. The first half of their marriage had its share of separation as my dad served in the Navy and they moved many times. My mom even stood by my dad when he presented a plan to move to another state with five children, live in a tent for three months, use an outhouse, bathe at the campground down the road and cook with only a microwave so he could fulfill his dream of building a log house in the mountains of Colorado. After 44 years, 5 children and soon to be 19 grandchildren, they are happily awaiting their next phase of life with a mission call that should be coming anyday.Happy Anniversary, Mom and Dad!!! My life and the lives of our little family have been so blessed because of your love for each other. We love you!!!

New Shoes - January 17, 2008

Our stake Pres. called last night for our interview. He said the papers will be sent to church office very soon. We should know where we will be going in three or four weeks.

The wind blew all night last night and it was very cold. A very funny thing happened in the night, Mom said she was freezing and she got up and put on socks etc. After sometime I noticed it was cooler but the heat was running. I got up and checked, thought we could be out of gas. The air conditioner was running and it was very cold in the trailer I turned off the a/c and put the heater on. In about 5 minutes I noticed it was warmer. We don't have a clue how it happened. It was 39 degrees at 8am so it was colder than that in the night.

I did something yesterday that I haven't done in 24 years. I bought a new pair of SHOES, not boots, I also get a new black suit, two new white shirts and a belt. I have worn boots my whole life. When I was a kid Mom always got me lace up boots every new school year, until I was 15. I did have some shoes then for a couple of years. I never had shoes like new balance etc. Mom said they made your feet stink. In the navy we wore lace up boots we called boondockers. I did have dress shoe for liberty. After I got out and worked as an Electrician, boots were the order of the day. So you can see new shoe is a strange thing for me.
